Saturday 16th May 1-4pm
Join Kirsten Milliken for an introductory workshop on the Japanese technique of Tataki Zomé (flower pounding). This method of botanical printing allows you to transfer the beautiful natural pigments from plants onto paper or fabric by hammering them. Learn the techniques for different types of plant and materials, experiment with different compositions and create a set of samples documenting your learning. At the end of this workshop, you’ll also have made your own handkerchief or headscarf to take home.
All tools and materials are provided. Suitable for complete beginners, no prior experience of textile crafts or natural pigments is needed. Participants under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
Kirsten Milliken is a craftsperson and storyteller based in Edinburgh. She has been working with wool and other natural materials since childhood and regularly teaches different textile arts and heritage crafts for people of all ages. Find out more about Kirsten at www.kirstenmilliken.co.uk
