Happy Volunteers Week!

This week we are joining 3rd sector organisations across the country to celebrate the contribution that our generous Volunteers make to our local economies and communities.

Here at Creation Mill we are a Social Enterprise which means any profit we make is reinvested for the benefit of all our participants whether this be hosting valuable school holiday provision or subsidising workshop fees to ensure that textile craft is an activity accessible to all.

We couldn’t do what we do without the help of our fabulous team of Volunteers, many of which have been championing the project since its founding and are members of the tight knit community we have here in Langholm.

Our volunteers take on a variety of roles across the organisation and there are opportunities for everyone. We have lots of skilled craftspeople in our community and many of our Volunteers share their talents through demonstrating at a variety of events especially through our work with school’s to inspire the next generation of textiles talent.

Alongside demonstrator opportunities our volunteers also provide support with …

  • Running of the Scrap Store

  • Market Days

  • Promotion of our Services

  • Hosting of Welcome Wednesday

  • Hosting of β€œIn Stitches”

Volunteering is mutually beneficial. It gives those of us working in the 3rd Sector, often with small budgets and small staff teams a much needed boost in skills, expertise and quite often an injection of positivity and enthusiasm when things are tough.

It gives our Volunteers confidence, a sense of community and belonging and a chance to meet new, like minded friends.

Whilst celebrating our Volunteers and their amazing contribution we must also mark the invaluable support and guidance that comes from our Board of Trustees. These Board Members keep us on the right path and provide advice on the nitty gritty of running a Social Enterprise. They make sure that the organisation is sustainable, legally and financially sound and most importantly always focussed on our aims to provide for the beneficiaries of our services. They keep us on track when our heads are exploding with creative ideas and grand plans, β€œone step at a time!”

If you would like to find out more about sharing your skills with us here at Creation Mill either as a Volunteer or a Board Member please contact - abigail.setters@creationmill.org (our Community Project Manager) and she will be happy to chat to you about our opportunities.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all of our wonderful Volunteers! x
