The journey of the Creation Mill Textiles Hub

Update - April 2024

We are so close now!

We have the final plans (below) and Founder, Emma, has been tirelessly fund finding for the capital build, we are 90% funded and just waiting on the last bit which should be finalised by end of May.

We are just about to submit the building warrant to the council and when that has been approved (hopefully within the 8 week led time) we can start building!! Yey!!

Just for size concept, our current office is about the size of Studio 2 & 3 together, so we are going to have much room to fill with Textile equipment, fabrics and all sorts!

Stay tuned for more updates!

Update - May 2023

We received funding in January 2023 to instruct Aditus Architects to draw up some initial plans and to start the ball rolling. We received the boards today (5th) and are very excited by seeing the plans in a professional way - makes it more real!

We shared the plans with our In Stitches group and there was a buzz about the plans, it got us all thinking about how we would like to use the space - how it will work in practice.

Update - February 2023

We are back on track with our plans for the Textiles Hub in Buccleuch Mill!

We have secured funding to start the process of getting detailed plans drawn up and the space cleared of all redundant heating and lighting systems. We have ongoing funding applications with a few keen funders for the capital funding - so fingers crossed we have some good news to share with you soon! In the meantime you can still find us next to the Langholm Initiative on Glenesk Road, DG13 0ES.

We have some new shelves which makes everything much tidier and we are now stocking some yarns from local fleeces; one from Burnfoot Farm in Ewes Valley made from Romney x Cheviot sheep and a range from Hebbs Alpacas which are from either Suri or Hacaya Alpacas. These are also available to buy from our online shop.

Update - September 2022

Whilst we are still looking into the possibilities with the bigger warehouse space, we have decided to take on an office space (still under the mill roof) in the short term so Creation Mill has a home.

This space was ready to move into (perfect!) and we have been able to set up a small Scrap Store - open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10-12pm - and also use the space for workshops and meetings.

Creation Mill has just been successful in a funding application to furnish the space, which we will of course take with us when we do develop the big space.

The big warehouse space will take a lot of planning and will potentially not be ready for 18 months plus.

The dream space

A blank canvas!

The space we are dreaming of turning into a Textiles hub is inside Buccleuch Mill, which is surrounded by thriving textiles businesses such as Yarns to Yearn For, Glen Isla, FTS Dyers and Kynoch1788.

We have secured funding via a Crowdfunder (Thank you everyone that donated!) to start the process for the space.

The ideas

It all begins with an idea, a concept, a dream.

These are some inspirational images found on Pinterest, looking at the way other projects inside warehouse spaces are created and designed.
