Coming up in April!

We’ve got lots going on in April at Creation Mill so we thought we’d do a round up of all of the workshops and special events we have to look forward to.

We are lucky enough as a Social Enterprise to be supported by generous Funders and Donors which allows us to offer some of our workshops at a subsidised cost, many of which are completely free!

Our funded opportunities this month are …

Boro Style Stitching - This workshop will be hosted by wonderful textile artist Pat Douglas of Carlenrig Farm. She will introduce us to the mindful Japanese practice of slow stitching using vintage and recycled fabrics. Repurposing fabrics in this way is great for supporting a waste less circular economy and is super relaxing helping to boost our health and wellbeing. This session has proven to be very popular so keep your eyes peeled for a second session in May.  - @carlenrigfarm

Zero waste jacket - This is the second of our jacket workshops after the huge success of the first. Designer Anna Watson will be guiding us through the process of creating a cosy quilted jacket made entirely from donated textiles from local industry. - @annawatsonfashion

Easter Holiday Workshops - We are pleased to be able to offer our Easter sessions Tot’s Textiles and Talk Textiles. We will have a range of crafty activities on offer for the kids to get involved with. Parents are more than welcome to attend. We have a cosy coffee corner if you fancy a catch up and a mooch around the scrapstore whilst the little ones are entertained. - These sessions are drop in so just pop along!

For dates and times or book a place at any of our funded sessions please visit the What’s on section of our website or email abigail.setters@creationmill.org. Please note that these sessions are very popular so if we are unable to offer you a place we will put you on a waitlist and keep you up to date with future activities.

As well as our supported sessions we are also pleased to be able to host some of the most talented Textile Artists from Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders at our Creation Mill space.

We have participants travel for miles and from just around the corner for these popular hobby workshops so there is always a great mix of like minded people to meet and create alongside.

This month we are excited to host Artist and Creative Practitioner Helen Walsh who takes inspiration from nature to create delicate and beautiful textile art. In this “Disappearing Act” session we will be using free motion embroidery to form stunning thread sculptures to treasure forever. - @delicate_stitches

For dates and times or to book onto any of our Hobby workshops please visit the What’s on section of our website.

We are excited to be hosting some special events this April and would love to see you join in. We will be releasing further details as the month goes on so keep an eye on our social media pages or email abigail.setters@creationmill.org for more information.

Lets Talk Fashion Revolution - will be a chance to join together in a discussion about sustainability in the fashion industry. We will be at the Buccleuch Centre on the 27th of April with a short film screening, industry talks and panel discussion to mark Fashion Revolution Week 2023.

Scrap Store Saturday - We will be opening our doors on Saturday the 15th of April to give people a chance to explore the Creation Mill space and Scrap Store outside of office hours. The Scrap Store is full of crafting goodies including yarns from local producers, DIY craft kits and a whole host of fabric and haberdashery. The Creation Mill team will be on hand to offer advice and inspiration for any projects you have in mind.

And just when you thought we couldn’t possibly squeeze in any more textile treats we have our regular groups and Scrap Store opening hours running throughout April! Keep an eye on our social media pages for the weekly what’s on which is released on a Monday.
