Intro to Tablet weaving with Kirsten

Tablet weaving is a method of weaving strong, narrow, decorative bands. The equipment required is very cheap and simple, yet the range of possible patterns is immense.

Tablet woven bands are known to have been made in Europe from the Bronze Age up until medieval times, and they are still made in parts of the world such as Turkey and Pakistan.

Uses of tablet-woven bands included the decoration of clothing, and use as belts and straps.

Materials used in the past include wool, linen, silk, and gold and silver thread.

Kirsten is a Textile artist and historical storyteller and she will expertly guide you through an introduction to tablet weaving.

Overall outcomes - to learn about the history and uses of tablet weaving, how to read patterns, warp-up the cards and weave using the backstrap method.

At the end of the sessions you will have created a small tablet woven sample large enough for a bookmark and will have the confidence to make larger pieces at home for use as trim, straps and belts.

Materials and refreshments are included - Please bring your own lunch.
